The letter expressed that, "In the best traditions and interests of Parliamentary democracy, the Leaders of Opposition in both Houses should also be given an opportunity to speak on this historic occasion." The opposition's plea underscores their desire to participate in the event that celebrates the Constitution, the cornerstone of India’s democracy.

The Government's Response

The Modi government, however, has countered the opposition's claim. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju responded by stating that the Prime Minister would not be addressing the joint sitting, and the key speakers would be the President, Vice President, and Speaker of the Lok Sabha. He also clarified that the seating arrangements had been made for the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on the dais.

Rijiju expressed discontent with the opposition's reaction, accusing them of criticizing the event without understanding the actual arrangements. He emphasized that the government's approach was in line with the solemn nature of the occasion.
